Tomato Chutney in South-Indian Style

Whenever we are planning to make Dosa or Idli in the house. The two easiest chutney we make to go with them is either tomato chutney or mint coconut chutney.

Although we sometimes prefer to make this coconut chutney & peanut chutney also. Tomato chutney is the most popular chutney down south and is a very flavorful and this spicy chutney which takes in very few ingredients along with regular tempering is a great condiment. Sometimes people use onion also, We are avoiding but one can definitely add a medium-size onion for the texture & creaminess. We started this amazing chutney series, which includes all the North-Indian & South-Indian chutneys. But first, enjoy this Thakkali aka Tomato chutney. So enjoy the recipe now.

Ingredients:

2 tomatoes
1 tbsp urad dal
1 small part of the tamarind
2 tbsp jaggery
1 tsp sesame oil
Salt as per taste

Recipe:

Soak the tamarind in water for 10-15 mins first.
Afterward, take a pan, add oil, urad dal & tomatoes.
Fry all for 2 mins.

After tomatoes are cooked, add soaked tamarind.

After the raw smell of tamarind goes, add salt & jaggery. Mix all well for 2-3 mins.

Now, let it cool & grind it into a fine paste. Tadka is totally optional if one want can add or can avoid it. Now, serve this with dosa or idli. It will taste awesome.
